Introduction

Lamplight is a mobile app that delivers Bible stories as narrated audio with Renaissance-style artwork. It is developed by Gurkirt Heerey. This privacy policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights as a user.

Lamplight is designed for users of all ages. We take privacy seriously, especially when it comes to younger users, and this app fully complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

Information We Collect

From All Users

  • Device identifier: We store a device identifier to maintain your app preferences. This identifier is generated by Apple and does not contain your name, email, or any other personal details.
  • Server logs: Our servers automatically record basic request information, including IP addresses, when the app communicates with our servers. These logs are used solely for maintaining app functionality and diagnosing technical issues. They are not used to identify or track individual users.

From Users Aged 13 and Older

  • Anonymous usage analytics: For users who confirm they are 13 or older during onboarding, the app collects anonymous usage events through PostHog. These events help us understand how the app is used so we can improve it. No personally identifiable information (PII) is included in these events.
  • Feedback form email: If you submit a support request through the in-app feedback form, we collect the email address you provide so we can respond. This is entirely optional and only available to users aged 13 and older.

What Stays on Your Device

The following data is stored locally on your device and is never sent to our servers:

  • Favorites
  • Listening history
  • Streaks
  • Playback position
  • Age range selection
  • Downloaded content: If you choose to download stories for offline listening, the app stores audio files, artwork images, and story metadata on your device's local filesystem. You can manage and delete downloaded content at any time from the Settings screen.

You can clear this data at any time by uninstalling the app or using the Manage Downloads option in Settings.

How We Use Information

  • Device identifiers are used only to maintain your app preferences.
  • Server logs are used only to keep the app running and to fix technical problems.
  • Anonymous analytics (13+ users only) are used to understand usage patterns and improve the app.
  • Feedback emails (13+ users only) are used only to respond to your support request.

We do not use any collected information for advertising, marketing, or profiling.

Children's Privacy

Lamplight complies with COPPA. During onboarding, users select their age range. If a user indicates they are under 13:

  • No analytics data is collected. PostHog is completely disabled.
  • No email is collected. The feedback form does not ask for or accept an email address.
  • No personal information of any kind is collected beyond the device identifier (for app preferences) and standard server logs described above.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent.

Third-Party Services

  • PostHog (13+ users only) provides anonymous usage analytics. PostHog does not receive any data from users under 13.
  • Apple App Store distributes the app. Apple's handling of your data is governed by Apple's privacy policy.
  • Cloudflare R2 hosts and delivers the audio content streamed by the app.
  • Network connectivity is monitored on your device to determine whether to serve downloaded content or stream from the server. This check happens locally and no network status data is sent to our servers.

We do not use any advertising services, third-party tracking, or social features.

Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, rent, or share any user data with third parties for any reason.

Data Retention and Deletion

Device identifiers and server logs are retained only as long as necessary for app functionality. Analytics data collected through PostHog is retained according to PostHog's data retention policies. Feedback emails are retained only as long as needed to resolve your request.

If you would like to request deletion of any data associated with your device, contact us at gheerey12@gmail.com and we will delete it within 30 days.

As a parent or guardian, you have the right to:

  • Review any information we have collected related to your child's use of the app
  • Request deletion of any data associated with your child's device
  • Refuse further collection of information

All Users

You have the right to:

  • Request a copy of any data we hold related to your device
  • Request deletion of your data
  • Contact us with questions or concerns about your privacy
